Building/Fire Code Compliance Upgrade in San Francisco, CA

We were initially contacted by a building owner in San Francisco, CA regarding an issue with the dryer not working correctly. Upon inspection it was determined that the existing exhaust system was not code complaint. The owner wanted us to bring the exhaust system into compliance, so we started on the project. The first step was to completely remove the existing exhaust system which had several issue 1. the gauge of metal on the duct work was incorrect. 2. The duct work was being held together with screw that were too long. 3. The seam on the duct work were not sealed correctly. In addition, the existing wall vent had a screen and no vent flap (screens and lint are not friends). Once the existing duct work was removed we replaced it with code compliant hard pipe (26 Ga). We also used several products from InOvate the first was Dryer-Ell's, these are specifically design to reduce the developed duct length when turns are necessary and help tremendously with air flow. The second was installing a new DryerWall from InOvate with a correct vent flap to guard against bird and rodents but still ensuring good air flow and back pressure. Third we installed a DryerFlex transition duct to the dryer which has a UL 2158a fire rating. Once the new system was install we ran a back pressure test with a magnehelic gauge to ensure that the water content is less than .06. The final test was to measure the air flow at the wall termination which was also up to code standards. All in all thisBuilding/Fire Code Compliance Upgrade project was a success, the property owner is happy and can sleep with a clear mind.
